Her mother, a doctor, stayed in Brazil to help maintain the family financially. Macario moved to San Diego, California, with her father and brother when she was 12 years old and spoke no English, to pursue her passion of playing soccer. Catarina was a member of the Santos football team in Brasilia until December 2011, until she relocated to the United States.Ĭatarina always had played for men’s teams in Brazil and only began playing for women’s teams after moving to the United States. She relocated to Brasilia, Brazil’s capital, along with her family when she was 7. She only stayed for about 6 months before going to the Cruzeiro football school.
